Podcast: The Power of Experiential Learning
By BRIAN SMITH
This week I sat down with a few teachers both in Fort Collins, Colo. and in Flagstaff, Ariz. to talk about No Barriers Youth programs, what they mean for students and what they do with teachers.
Laura, a math teacher at Rocky Mountain High School, has seen both sides of the No Barriers Youth experience with students on trips in the American Southwest, on a trip to Cambodia and during a short trip with students to the 2013 No Barriers Summit in Telluride, Colo.
Here’s how she described the effect of working with No Barriers Youth:
“It’s neat to see a wide variety students in a situation where their passions can come out and where they can really feel like they are doing something instead of going through the motions and they do have a say. That’s been really encouraging for me in education and has reignited my desire to be in education.”
